Montgomery Powers White Sox Past Guardians, 5–3

CHICAGO — Colson Montgomery supplied the power, and the Chicago White Sox supplied another important series victory.

Montgomery blasted his 26th home run of the season as the White Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 5–3, and claimed two of three games from their American League Central rivals.

That’s a White Sox Winner—and this one carried considerably more weight than an ordinary August victory.

After entering the series needing to regain momentum, the South Siders responded by taking two of three from Cleveland and strengthening their position in an increasingly unpredictable divisional race. Montgomery’s home run provided the signature moment, but the victory once again demonstrated Chicago’s ability to answer an opponent’s challenge and protect a lead when the situation demanded it.

The White Sox could not afford to surrender this series. Cleveland arrived as a direct challenger, while the Detroit Tigers have suddenly emerged from the pack to become the latest team applying pressure in the division.

Chicago took care of the first piece of business. Now another dangerous test is coming to Rate Field.

The Cincinnati Reds are unpredictable, athletic and capable of changing a game quickly. They may not be an American League opponent, but this upcoming series matters greatly for a White Sox club attempting to maintain momentum while Detroit and Cleveland continue their pursuit.

Winning two of three against the Guardians gave Chicago some necessary breathing room. It also reinforced an important message: the White Sox are not simply attempting to survive the pennant race. They intend to control it.

Montgomery’s 26th home run helped secure the series. The next challenge is making sure the momentum continues against Cincinnati.

The race is tightening. The challengers may change. The responsibility for the White Sox does not.
